A small toroidal current probe is placed inside the plating bath near the work piece. A digital display on the instrument indicates the current density at that point in A/ft2 or A/dm2. By Faradays Law, this current density is directly proportional to the rate at which material is being deposited on the work piece.

The gearless contractometer measures stress in the electrodeposited part that will blister or peel off if the stress is severe. Excessive stress can cause distortion in the work piece so that the work has to be scrapped and can cause premature failure by accelerating corrosion. By measuring the angular deflection of a helix that has been plated on one, the amount of stress can be determined. Our instrument is gearless for greater reproducibility and reduced backlash.
